Our Week: October 26 - 30

READING:

We are learning our reading strategies this week.  See the posters below and encourage your child to use them to help read a story.









WRITING:

We are finishing up our writing unit.  We are double checking our work to add words with spaces, punctuation, and capitals.  We are making sure our illustrations are very detailed to show our story.


MATH:

We are talking about positions such as above, below, next to, beside, under, etc.  Practice these words at home by taking turns naming a position and moving a stuffed animals (or something similar) to the correct location.

We are also working on representing numbers in various ways.  This can include the number, a ten frame, tally marks, and more!


ANIMATED LITERACY:

Monday - short oo; Woody Woodchuck
          *Action - Act like you are looking through binoculars as you say "oo"



Tuesday - Draw a book and write a sentence such as "I can see the orange book."


Wednesday - Letter I; Ichabod Ichthyosaurus

Our Week: October 19 - 23

Our book for this week is It Will Look Good.  


READING:
This week we are looking at informational text features such as maps, diagrams and comparisons.  We are talking about how these help us learn about the topic of the book.  We are also discussing how different informational texts are alike and different.

We are also going to start our Reading Strategies.  On Friday, we will learn about Eagle Eye.  Eagle Eye tells us to look at the picture to help us with the words.  


WRITING:
We finished working on our pictures by talking about keep colors consistent throughout a story like on people's clothing and on animals.  We talked about why illustrators might choose to draw in only black and white like to show night time.  We are also working hard on adding words including spaces, punctuation, and capital letters.

MATH:  (Activities to do at home are below each classroom activity.)
This week we worked on seeing what combinations make 10 by playing a Ten Bean Spill game.  You could use anything with two different sides like coins.  

We also reviewed our shapes (circle, square, triangle, rectangle) by building them with wiki sticks.

We are going to start our number books to practice writing numbers and drawing pictures to match.  

We are also working on longer and shorter.

Friday - Draw a moon and write a simple sentence such as "The moon will look good by the stars."

Our Week: October 12-16

Our book this week is called Dress Up.


READING:
This week our going to learn about schema.  This is using what we already know to try to figure out other things.  We will also look at nonfiction books to see how the drawings and photos can help us understand more about the topic we are reading.

WRITING:
We are going to continue our unit on illustrations.  We will study adding backgrounds, drawing with shapes, using movement lines, using realistic colors and trying our best and moving on.

MATH:We are learning about rectangles.  We will also work on some number stories with week to solve addition and subtraction problems.  We will also sort shapes by different properties and graph them.

Our Week: October 5 - 9

Our book for this week is Go Up To Me.  



READING:

This week we are continuing our learning about predicting what will happen in a story by using the illustrations to help us.  We are also illustrations can tell more than one story at a time and that they can help us interact with the story.


We are also working on rhyming words this week.  Practice this skill at home by saying two words and having your child tell you if they are a rhyme or not.



WRITING:

We are going to focus this week on adding details to our personal narrative illustrations.  This will include adding details to people and animals.  We will also study how to show emotions in our illustrations to let our readers know how our characters are feeling.


MATH:

We are looking and circles and rectangles this week as well as reviewing triangles.  Be sure to point out these shapes as you see them around you to reinforce their names.  


We will also work on accurately counting how many objects are in different groups.  Work on counting to 100 by ones and tens at home.  We are getting better but still need some work.



ANIMATED LITERACY:
