This week we will look closely at how illustrations can tell a story as well as show one important moment in a story.  We will also start talking about predicting what will happen in a story by looking at the pictures.

Our new unit is all about illustrations.  We will look at different page layouts (text on top, text on bottom, everything on one page or spanning across two pages).  We will also start to talk about some features like speech bubbles and thought bubbles.

We are continuing our investigation on trees.  We will look at the shape of trees and review the parts of trees.

MATH:
We will be exploring what happens when you add one more to a number.  Here is a game we are using to practice this concept.  You could use a cup or bowl instead of a can.  You could use change or cherrios instead of the counters.

We are finishing up our first unit on Wednesday.  We are taking to days to try to improve our books we have done the whole time.  On Wednesday we will have our first Writer's Celebration.  Look for your child's writing to come home on Wednesday.  On Thursday we will start unit 2:  Personal Narrative Illustration Study.  We will begin by looking at what other authors have done in order to learn from them.
