The sight word book for the week is Can You See It? Use the online version to read and call out one of sight words for them to find on the pages.
READING:
We are starting our second unit in reading: Readers Make Meaning From Text and Illustrations. This week we are working really hard to learn what an author does and what an illustrator does. We will also look at the common features of fiction books (drawings, characters do something, etc.) and informational texts (real pictures, learn something, etc.).
WRITING:
We are finishing up our first unit on Wednesday. We are taking to days to try to improve our books we have done the whole time. On Wednesday we will have our first Writer's Celebration. Look for your child's writing to come home on Wednesday. On Thursday we will start unit 2: Personal Narrative Illustration Study. We will begin by looking at what other authors have done in order to learn from them.
SCIENCE:
We are going to start learning about trees. This will continue all year. We will learn the different parts of a tree and go out to observe a summer tree before the leaves turn.
MATH:
We will focus on triangles for a day. We will work on accurately counting objects to 10 and pairing them with the number that matches. We will also work on breaking numbers down by playing a hiding game. If I have 5 and put some under a cup. There are 2 out of the cup. How many are in the cup? This is very difficult at this time of year. Please play some hiding games at home to help them learn how to break numbers into parts.
